[Wswss] N3FJP software

Hi Mike

What kind of help do you need?

We of the AD6IJ group use the N3FJP VHF-Net program on a variety of
laptops. To avoid any RF-induced problems, we use wired networking
(all stations are in a trailer). Get a $10 router. Shut off its
wireless function if it has one. You should let it be a DHCP server.

You must share the folder on the server that contains the mdb file.
From the slaves, use the Browse button on the setup screen and find
the database on the server.

Possible pitfalls, depending on the environment the laptops usually
live in: Is your router at home at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1? Both
of those are common. If you set IP address in the laptop itself, the
first three subnet addresses have to match. Also, your workgroup
names have to be the same ... nowadays that is MSHOME, but older
machines may be set to WORKGROUP.

We have a problem from time to time in which the program in a slave
loses track of the server. You get a non-helpful error message
something like "error opening file." There is nothing to be done but
close the program and open it again. You may get some relief by
trying another computer as the master.

Will someone out there please give me some hardware direction or do
it yourself information for wired or wireless multi operator computer
logging. I use N3fjp software if it makes any difference. There just
must be a website around as so many contesters seem to be using this
kind of logging system. Mike G w6we DM05
