Hello John,
Yes this is true. I was able to copy KE7NR in DM33 in Phoenix, AZ
from here in central California direct in terrestrial mode ( not meteor
scatter or
EME at that time )using JT-65 on 2 meters last year. Arizona, Utah and
Nevada should be
quite workable here in California provided that stations are also QRV
using these modes.

Subject: [Wswss] WSJT JT65B terrestrial operation in June VHF Contest
Hello,
In an effort to raise awareness and increase scores, I will be using
WSJT JT65B for terrestrial contacts during this June's VHF contest.
At present, my 2M station in CM94 has successfully had contacts with
grids as far north as CM89/99, east DM07, south to DM12/22, and all
others in between. I want to encourage others to add WSJT to their
contest stations this June. My station will actively be using JT65B
during the contest. So if you want to extend your 2M horizons, pick up
some extra grid multipliers, or are in the grids mentioned above and
need a CM94 contact, please schedule with me this June on JT65B.
I am looking forward to some higher scores.
