A very good Sprint, thanks to all who participated.
Since I've been having a problem with RF feedback, I loaded everything
in the SUV and ran a final check before leaving for CM86.
Arrived at Santa Cruz about 6:30, mounted the antenna and ran a SWR
check. Looked great, almost 100w out. Then when I stopped
transmitting, the transverter went bonkers with all leds flashing and
the power output only dropped to about 70 watts instead of zero. Tried
checking all the cabling, tightened all the connectors, no change.
After ten minuted of checking things, I'm REALLY upset. This worked two
hours ago, what had changed? Then realized that while I was running all
the test, I had the top cover off the transverter. I had put it back on
just before leaving the house. Took the cover off and ever thing worked
again.
Conditions were good to the south as I worked DM14, DM04 and two CM95
stations. To the north and east, signal were very weak but did manage
to work four stations in CM98.
Thanks to all who got on for the Sprint. If you need a confirmation for
CM86, just send me a card, no SASE needed.
73,
Tom K6EU
