N6ZE/Rover/QRP operated from Grids CN87 & CN88 during the Spring 2008 Six
Meter Sprint Contest. No openings of any kind were noted, but activity levels
were quite good. A total of 16 different stations in 4 grids were worked. KB7ME
in CN85 was heard from CN88 at strength S-3 to S-5. 2 stations were worked on
FM while all other Qs were on SSB. While enroute to CN87, my X-YL & I enjoyed a
great fresh halibut and Penn Cove mussel dinner in Oak Harbor. I used an
FT-817 (2W QRP) + 3 element HiPar "Lunenberg" portable yagi or 1/4 wave vertical
whip for all QSOs. CN88pl location was atop Mt. Erie, Annacortes, WA and the
CN87tw location was on a 500 ft ridge in Clinton, Whidbey Island, WA. Despite
the lack of band openings, I enjoyed the outing. This year, I participated in
the 6 meter, 2 meter, & 70 Cm Spring Sprints: this one proved to be the most fun
with a bunch of stations active in the PNW.
Statistics:
CN88: 14Q/4G (1.4 hr. operating time)
CN87: 6Q/2G (10 min. operating time)
TOTAL SCORE: 120 POINTS
