Well, I have to apologize about not pointing toward the PNW from DN03bk
much, but I was too busy on six meters. I don't know how many in the
Northwest area got in on the great openings on 6m, but what an incredible
time. I was constantly busy working a pile-up on six meters on Sunday (as
were the other guys that were operating in that area) from California to
VE1, and from Cuba and Puerto Rico to Wyoming. There were times when the
pile-up got so intense that I could not pick out any call signs, as though I
was a DX station. I worked 324 QSO's in 128 grids on 6M alone. Sunday's
opening was absolutely unbelievable. Unfortunately, since I was so busy on
6M, I did not get in on the 2M e's to Oklahoma, Ohio, Missouri, and Iowa.
Here is my summation of my activity from Sheep Mtn in DN03bk. This is the
most intense contest I have EVER been in, HF or VHF. One problem I had was
when a Rover would come up on the Frequency I had been on for more than two
hours, work me, then attempt to take over the frequency. This happened
several times.
The weather was great all weekend, but I still had equipment problems, and
antennas breaking again. The Mic amp on the FT-920 seemed to quit working.
So, I had to re-wire the 6M amp for the PTT out on the FT-897. After
working W5WVO on WSJT, my sound card interface quit. Then, the 5 element 6M
yagi wasn't working right. Fortunately for me, I had a 2 element Moxon in
the back of my vehicle. I took the 5 el down, put up the Moxon, but not
after breaking off about 1 1/2" of one side, I stuck the end back through
the square tubing, and it worked great. This year, the weather was better,
the bands were better, and the contest was a tremendous success for me.
Best 73's.
6M 324 Q's 128 Grds
2M 28 Q's 11 Grds
222 10 Q's 8 Grds
432 5 Q's 3 Grds
1296 1 Q 1 grid
Total Q's = 368
Total Q Points 385
Total Mults 151
Claimed Score: 58,135
