Joe Burke was a first-rate VHF weak-signal 
operator for more than 50 years.  On 222 MHz., 
he was a true pioneer, working K7ICW in Las Vegas 
and several Northern California stations when it 
was done almost entirely with vacuum tubes.
I first worked him from Utah on 222 MHz almost 
40 years ago on my first DXpedition up to what is 
now known as DM37.

When we almost lost weak signal access to the 
222 MHz band after the FCC pulled the first 
two MHz of the amateur allocation (220-222 
MHz), Joe was a leader in the fight to save 
a little corner of the remaining band for 
DX work.

I, too, will miss him.
