WB6CWN, chief yagi turner, & I operated for the first 2 hours of the Spring
2008 2 Meter Sprint from a small hilltop in Thousand Oaks, CA, DM04ne.
10 QSOs were made: 5 were in town locals + 1 in DM03 on FM; 4 were on ssb;
no cw was noted.
Unusual observations: the Palis Verdes Emergency Net met on 146.55MHz FM
during the Sprint & the Bakersfield 2 meter SSB Emergency Net met on
144.200MHz USB during the Sprint.
5 Grids were worked: DM12, DM03, DM04, DM05, & CM98. DM14 was heard weakly.
K6NKC (DM12) had good signals at all times but KG6KKV in Bakersfield (DM05)
was much louder even though there is a 6000 ft plus mountain range between
my QTH & DM05.
Both W6OMF (in western CM98) and KC6ZWT (in central CM98) had S-6 +/-
signals.
My noise level tended to be quite high, but there just was not any activity
in SoCal! Even K6TSH was not on!
Rig was FT-736 + Microwave Modules 70 W brick + 16 el F9FT yagi.
