SOAPBOX COMMENTS:
N6ZE/Rover briefly operated in Santa Monica & LAX Airport, CA and made a more
substantial effort from Everett & Whidbey Island, WA. From CN87/88, 2 meter
QSOS were made from Portland, OR (CN85) to Vancouver, BC, Canada (CN89). QSOs
from CN87 were made from locations at 480 and 605 feet above sea level. QSOs
from CN88 were made from locations 100 to 250 feet above sea level. Equipment
used included: FT817 + ¼ wave whip (6m); FT817 & TM255 + 5/8 whip, KQ mini
loop, & 7 element yagi (2m); & Ft817 + 2m 5/8 whip * (70cm). Activity levels in
SOCAL seemed very low some 2 hours into the Contest. On the other hand, activity
levels in NW WA seemed to be quite high when winter weather conditions were
considered. All QSOs on SSB except for one very weak signal QSO on 6m CW.
* Oops: left 70 cm antenna at home QTH in DM04!
