Does our Ham community feel so persecuted and misunderstood that we
have to try and correct what appears to be misconceptions in a
fictional story?
I saw that 'Jericho' episode twice. The amateur operator that was
asked for radio assistance by the Mayor simply told the Mayor that it
would cost the Mayor 50 cents for the radio call. It was apparent that
the radio operator didn't like the Mayor, and would not oblige him
a 'free phone call' due to whatever feud was going on between them.
This was also demonstrated by the Mayor's reluctance to visit the
operator's home to ask for help. It was their poor relationship that
prompted the 50 cent remark.
Sorry for wasting bandwidth,
Dan K6NKC
