Hi Guys, it was great. Thanks to all who helped make it a success. A special
thanks to Larry, K6AAW, who let me use his hill in Red Bluff, CN90.
What a site! A 360 panoramic view. I think Larry had almost as much fun as I
had. I tried to work Joe, K6IBY in DM13 from there, but just could
not get enough for a contact. Did work Bill, AE6EQ in Los Osos CM95 however.
He was really loud at times. Pulling up the grade from Dunsmuir
to Mount Shasta City, it started to rain and I thought, there goes that trip
up the Mt, but it quit after a while. My most notable contact was working
Bob, K6QXY, mobile in downtown Mount Shasta City. We climbed up the Mt to
6,793 ft and found a really good wide spot with a good look S.
Fresh snow was visible not too far away and it was cold. Sun am was clear
and cold with all the cars in the Motel parking lot covered with frost.
Greg's (KJ6KO) beacon was a great help while mobile. I could hear it a lot
near Mc Cloud (CN81) in places I wouldn't think possible. Found another
great wide spot in CN91 next to Lake Britton, again with a good shot S. Made
many contacts there. In Susanville CN90, tried to work K7MAC nr
Boise, but couldn't make it. Did hear him on 2m and 222 however, but no
contact. Dropping down into Reno on 395, worked Jeff, K6XQ CM97
while mobile. He had a great signal. Thanks to Tim, K7XC and Larry W6OMF for
their help in coordinating contacts. Also Norm, KB6KQ for a
great 222 loop, an amazing performer. 9 Grids and 36 contacts, with 10
unique calls. Changed plans and did not return thru DM08. Most already had
this grid from a previous trip, or were at work. Looks like best DX was from
CN80 to AE6EQ in CM95 for 346 mi.
73 de Norm KC6ZWT.
