Thanks to all for the words of encouragement regarding Mt. Pinos. Alas,
the Forest Service prevailed and we will NOT be on that coveted spot.
However, we WILL be on another reasonably good mountaintop, albeit a few
thousand feet lower ... Magic Mountain ... at DM04uj at roughly 5000
feet. We have a good shot at the Central Valley as well as the high
desert and the LA basin and points south.
As before, all bands except 5760, up to 24 GHz, but FM only on 902. We
are operating as W6SBA, South Bay Amateur Radio Club.
As a side note, after speaking with the rangers regarding Mt. Pinos, we
plan to ask for an audience with the District Ranger and beg forgiveness
on behalf of all hams and see if we can come up with a mutually
agreeable means to gain access to the top of Mt. Pinos once again.
Don't know if this will be successful, but we are going to give it a
try. One thought is that we offer to help maintain the road to the top
and to help keep the area policed up. Caltrans has their "Adopt a
Highway" program ... maybe we should have "Adopt a Mountaintop?" We
will post more on this as things progress.
Thanks again, hope we see you on the air this weekend.
