Almost all ICOM rigs have a signal (hsend?) that goes from 8v (no transmit)
to 0 (during transmit) that brought out on one of the connectors.  A fairly
simple circuit will allow you to switch the common brick amp using this
signal.

I build one for an IC-290 and a Mirage amp several years ago.  I'm away from
home right now but will send you the details when I get home on Monday.
Seems like it was just a couple of small signal transistors and a couple of
resistors.  I put mine in an old plastic 35mm film can.
