Some 6 meter interest.

6 meter EME activity with small stations has been really picking up
lately.

Subject: [Moon-net] Weekend 6m EME results

Last weekend I worked several single yagi stations (G4IGO, G4PCI and
G8BCG/P) on the
UK moonset. However, the big surprise was completing on Sunday evening
with VA6SZ!
Andy was only running 75w output to an M2 6M2.5WLC yagi at 60'. This
was my first 6m
EME contact with a "barefoot" single yagi station. Although Andy copied
me when his
moon was quite high, I only received anything from him when the moon got
down into
his second ground gain lobe around 12 degrees.

The success was due to:

1) Andy's extreme patience
2) The great ground gain at the VA6SZ QTH - flat wheat fields.
3) The sensitivity of the JT65A mode
4) Luck that the Faraday rotation happened to peak for me at the same
time as the
moon was in his ground gain lobe.

Although my decodes were very close to the limit - around -29 dB - I
actually think
I could complete with a slightly smaller station under better
conditions....the
degredation was over 4 dB, so there is another 2 dB to be gained under
ideal cndx.
Also, I feel confident that I could do better when I am not aiming into
the guy wires
and my other 6m tower right in front of the EME array as I was last
night.

So, I am looking forward to trying with a 100w station running a good 7
element yagi
looking out over salt water ;-) GL and VY 73, Lance
