I wasn't expecting good propagation because of the unsettled weather, but
it wasn't too bad after all. Ralph was comfortable SSB for about 90
seconds, S2 to S3, and then the floor dropped out. Steve was even better,
conversing on SSB for 3 minutes straight, with a nice steady signal; then
the same thing happened (gone). After 5 minutes, he was back, steady and
peaking at s4, lasting another 3 minutes or so until we signed clear.
Local conditions varied, with those close to sea level doing well, those
at altitude quite variable.
KK1CW (Walt in San Jose) just got his 1296 station up and running in the
last few days, barefoot IC-910 and a single 35 el loop yagi; he reported
hearing both Ralph and Steve on backscatter, he's quite intrigued by this,
and intends to pursue with some vigor...
Until next week...
Jim
