Subject: [WSWSS] Yuma 2 mtr beacon operational
Hi VHFers,
Just received the message below from Bob, KA6LSL in Yuma. DM22. Sounds
like he did an outstanding job in installing and tweaking the beacon. The
frequency is pretty close to 144.289.5 zero beat. In the ssb mode a
receiver set to slightly below 144.289 should hear a good note on it. N6CA
reported hearing it in Lomita with the peaks 10-15 dB out of the
noise. Chip has a medium size yagi but he claims his shot in that
direction is not good. I am detecting the beacon Q5 on my single loop from
the mobile on a peak in Pt Loma, San Diego.
Please send your reception reports to Bob at [email protected]. Please info
the reflector so we can all see the prop reports. Thanks to Bob for giving
the beacon a home.

>Hello Jack,
>The beacon survived the trip and put it on a dummy load with power supply
>that I planned on using. That power supply was at 13.9 volts and I could
>not get it down to where I wanted it. Put it with different supply that has
>good voltage control and set it for 13.0 volts. The Bird meter shows 24
>watts with that setting.
>
>Relocated antenna on tower to 48 feet above ground and the base of the
>tower is just over 400 feet above sea level.
>Horizontal 6 element beam with a heading of 295 degrees magnetic. SWR is
>1.1 and it looked good via the MFJ 269. With the Bird meter in line the
>beacon is getting 00.20 watts reflected. Had to work on the tuning of the
>beam to get it to that point right at 144.288 MHz.
>
>As of 7:00 PM MST today, Friday March 5 the unit is operational.
>
>Hope you fellows can hear it over on the coast.
>We will not be over for the breakfast this month so please let everyone
>know that it is operational.
>
>73 for now,
