Well, after a long seven-hour-replacement-valve-in-his-heart surgery last
Tues. a.m., Hank is doing better, but a little nauseated today (just
talked to him). The doctors took no breaks (which would've been a big
help to H's daughters, Kim and Mel, and I); but, they had a lot of
surgical procedures to do with him as his lungs were a problem - but, his
heart is in good shape, Dr. Hall told us.
He had a marvelous all-night nurse, stood on her feet all night long
Tues. night helping him, talking to him and taking all of his stats and
keeping excellent record of them. He could not speak as he had all those
tubes in his mouth and he was trying to tell her something, as she was
very nice and helpful to him; she wrote down all of the alphabet and
asked him to point to the letters - he did and they said, 'Thank You!'
She even made me a bed in the ICU and kept me apprised of all of his
stats (and, she told Hank that she better do her job right as I was
watching her all night long!) I will write a letter to the hosp. in her
behalf.
So, Hank should be out in 2-3 days; hopefully, I'll be over this darn
cold by then, and I've arranged to have outside homecare nursing help me
with him till he's recuperated.
Today, Sat., Hank's not feeling too well; so, if you call him or visit -
might wait till much later after he rests (hopefully, the nurses are
looking in on him often).
He's at Little Company of Mary Hospital, Torrance, CA, telephone: (310)
540-7676, hit 1, then ext. 34461#; he's in Room 446.
We thank you all for your calls and concern.
Alice
