[WSWSS] Noise from Garmin GPS II

John's message regarding GPS use age to set a clock reminded me of a
problem I have with my Garmin GPS II.
I bought a used Garmin GPS II, and have used it in my truck several
times while roving.
I notice that when I turn it on, the background noise in a 2M receiver
increases. I noticed it at first on a 2M FM rig, but it also has some
lesser effect on a 2M SSB radio also. I did not think to try it while in
CW mode.
Any ideas why this should be?
I was powering the GPS with a cigarette lighter plug cord, and it was
sitting on the dash right next to the 2M radio. The 2M radio was not
powered by the lighter socket, as I have a heavy gauge wiring setup to a
power-pole panel for the radios. I was not using a remote antenna on the
GPS.
I have not attempted any diagnostic routines, as the setup is often
temporary for a sprint or to make a few local rover contacts during an
event in which I am not able to compete.
