[WSWSS] KH6HME 222 beacon time clarification Paul, KH6HME, has asked
me to clarify the transmit times for the 222 beacon. The original
message sent by KI6FF/K6IBY is correct except for the exclusion of
the 17 minute timer. The purpose of the timer is to conserve
electricity which is very expensive on the island. The main timer is
on from 0600 PDT to 2317 PDT. There is also a secondary timer of 17
minutes duration. The transmissions start on the hour for each hour in
this time increment and will stay on for 17 minutes and then stop
transmitting. ie. transmits 0600-0617, 0700-0717, 0800-0817 etc,
and 2300-2317 is the last transmission until 0600 the following
morning.(all times PDT) Good luck to all and thanks to Joe for
building the beacon and Paul for activating it. 73 Jack N6XQ (
the previous message read) Late news form Paul via K6IBY, Joe... The
222 MHz beacon is on the air from BK29, Muana Loa on the BIG Island of
Hawaii. Here is the run down: On the air as of today, June 2, 2003
Frequency: 222.100 MHz. (Yes the calling frequency. If you don't want
to hear it turn your antennas away). Mode: CW Power: 95 watts. On the
air daily 6am PDT to 11pm PDT (that is correct, Pacific Daylight
Time...our local west coast time). Antenna: 40' heliax to an 11
element beam. Beam direction: Santa Barbara, CA ( at that beam width
we should have good coverage all along the coast). Paul says: If you
hear this beacon please call me (after 11 am PDT) at 1 808 959-9553.
If an answering machine picks up...give me your name and callsign, the
time and date you heard the beacon. The location where you heard the
beacon, a signal report, and your phone number so I can call you back.
Joe, K6IBY says: Let me know when you hear the beacon. There is a
special certificate for being the first ever to hear this beacon.
Also we will have a big luau party to celebrate. 73, David, KI6FF
