[WSWSS] WSWSS and NWWSVHF (Deja Vu)

We had the kind of conference Bob is suggesting for many years,
even before the Central States VHF Conferences began.

There were about 40 regional West Coast VHF Conferences
that rotated up and down the coast and inland, with major
participation from the Northwest as well as California,
Nevada and Arizona. I learned an enormous amount
from the Seattle and Portland area guys who were regulars
at the conferences in the early 1970s. Their presence inspired
me to go on VHF expeditions to the Northwest and Alaska
(in 1970 and 1976).

Eventually I hosted two of these conferences in Santa Barbara,
in 1977 and 1980. The West Coast VHF Society, an outgrowth
of the old GD Microwave Society, was the sponsor, but it was
a more loosely organized group than the Central States VHF
Society, and that perhaps led to its demise. Another factor,
to be honest, was that the rotation of meeting sites ended.
After about three consecutive conferences in the same ARRL
division with no rotation, attendance from other areas declined.
Also, we lost some key VHFers, especially Bay Area folks
who had provided critical continuity over many years.

In my view, we lost something worthwhile when the truly
regional West Coast VHF Conferences were no more.
Could we have them again? There would have to be a true
rotation, with strong support from local VHFers in each area.
An alternative that might work would be to hold a conference
in one centrally located place every year but with rotating
sponsorship--something like the Visalia International DX
Conference (which has rotating sponsors even though it's
held in the same place each year).

Hi guys ,

Have anyone thought about putting to gather our two groups and have one big
West Coast VHF Society. We could have one BIG Conference.

This could become like the CSVHF Conference. Move it up and down and around
the west.

This could draw a lot of Hams and that would bring a lot of dealers and Big
time Speakers. Less think it over.
