Hello EME Friends:
Last January, I posted a message on moon-net that CQ-VHF magazine would
be publishing my article entitled, "Getting Started On Two Meter EME To
Work Lots Of DX". It was published in the Winter 2003 edition of that
magazine. I updated a couple sections of this article & have also
submitted it to be published in the upcoming Central States VHF
Society's Conference Proceedings. A presentation was made last October
at
the WSWSS Conference on this topic & an earlier version of this article
was
published in the WSWSS Conference Proceedings also.
Several EMEr's, particularly outside of the US, contacted me & said that
they were unable to find CQ-VHF magazine & asked me to forward a copy of
the article to them via email. I am very pleased to announce that
David, GM4JJJ, has graciously agreed to place my latest article on his
website. Thank you David for doing so & thank you Juha, OH6XX, for
converting my original MS Word document to a Adobe Acrobat file. You
can access this article by either:
1. Going to David's homepage at http://www.gm4jjj.co.uk & finding the
link to my article in the moonbounce section of his homepage, or
2. Going directly to http://www.gm4jjj.co.uk/K6PF/k6pf.pdf & view my
article.
Here is an outline of the topics covered:
A. The Nature of EME - Basic Technical Aspects (polarization,
libration fading, doppler effect, sky noise, path loss, degradation,
declination, ground gain, moon phases, activity weekends, & best times
to operate are all covered in this section).
B. What Kind Of Station Is Needed To Work 2m EME? (a minimum station
as well as a more advanced station are discussed).
C. Selecting The Best Times To Operate & Setting Up Skeds.
D. Operating Procedures For 2m EME.
E. Sample FFTDSP Displays (showing several different signal
strengths).
F. Digital Techniques.
G. Conclusions.
Also, a lot of references & URL's are included. I think this article is
a good reference for anyone wanting to get started on 2m EME as well as
for some of the newer EMEr's. Any feedback from the EME community on it
will be appreciated.
73,
Bob, K6PF
