Seriously consider the Elecraft K2: http://www.elecraft.com/
The basic K2 is already at low power levels (10w) so you aren't paying for
big finals you aren't using - not to mention the world-class receiver specs
- follow the "Rig Comparisons" link on the Elecraft site to the table of
ARRL test results.
