Hi:

Just to let you all know that Hank's in San Francisco for a few weeks.

His Mom, Lottie passed away, hopefully peacefully, on Wed., 8/28, on our
way
up to S.F. I asked Hank to fly up - but, he wanted to drive. Her
grandson
and Clara (her caretaker) were with her, as well as the hospice nurse.
Hank
was very close to Lottie, called her every day with current events, all
the
family news, etc., so this is very difficult for him, understandably.

We dressed her in a lovely lavender dress and she looked marvelous. I
had a
few tearful moments with her after all the kids/relatives/friends
'talked'
with her - said I would be Hank always and would preserve all that was
dear
to her. The whole few days have been very sad; H has been strong. But,
with
all of H's daughters (4), all of Hank's nephews, Clara and I helping -
we've
been a good team - calling the Social Sec. Ofc/lawyer/hospice equipment
ofc,
bank/etc, all her friends, relatives, international relatives, friends
(Hank
did all of this and I commend him for being so strong).

The services and all were lovely - she had many friends (still living)
and
many grandkids, relatives, including our friends from Belgium were there.
 We
had a marvelous get-together afterwards, catered and a lot of great hugs
from
a lot of friends and relatives. I think Lottie was watching over all of
it
with pride.

There's a lot to do with the house; we'll get a good realtor (we hope) to

help evaluate it all in the next few months. All the kids (9) said that
they
would help (which is rough for them)There's some major plumbing problems,
a
very large expanding tree to be cut back or down. Hank (bless his heart)

wants Clara to stay on (she had major foot surgery last Tues.) to
recuperate;
then go to Mexico to live and hopefully to marry her fiancee.

So, right now, Hank will be in S.F. for a few weeks to work a lot of
things
out. I'll go up and pick him up - if I don't get lost (I did pretty well

with five freeways to cope with). My Son, Don, offered before to fly up
there to S.F. and drive back with me when H had to stay in S.F. - I
thought
that was so thoughtful.

Well, we really wanted to have the Ham conference here - if you want, we
could have it this Sat, sans Hank (but, I know that he really wants to be

with you all).

Take care all of you, life is so precious and risky (with Bush/Blair and
Saddam/Osama making plans - darn them!). So, hug your spouses, etc.,
daily,
and value the days ahead. /Alice
