David and all.....
I had no trouble hearing WA6YGB, Howard of course. KO6SY Malcolm was
a little light but 100% copy until he put the amp on and then the RF
garbled his signal. You of course we were solid copy until your
computer crapped out. Running 18 watts on PSK31 thru my 4 bay of M2
2M9s with the tower cranked down to about 25 feet. Turned the pre-amp
off for the PSK portion as it was providing too much input for the
close by signals. Was not hearing Malcolm on SSB with his 5 watts,
but 100% copy on PSK.
Had hoped for a couple of more people joining in on the fun, but
maybe some of them were listening. I don't know the best way to
handle a net on PSK but the round robin thing were doing last night
seemed to work. Passing it in order around the group as they log on,
with a pause for any new activity.
Would be willing to try it some more, if people are interested. We
had some activity on 2m back when PSK got first popular. Worked up
into CM98 and CM87 on a fairly regular basis then, but usually had to
run some power to make that haul. Usually between 100 and 200 watts
seemed to work fairly well for those distances, but it knocks the
front off anyone close by to run that kind of power.
Let me know what's cooking and I will try to make it from this end.
