If I may interject some of the reasoning for transferring these items from
QST to the web site.
At this time, a Section Manager from each section submits a Section News
article for QST. Each Section Manager has a limited number of lines that he
or she has to stay within. The font size of the magazine is quite small. By
the time you read the section news, it is sometimes out of date. For
example, when I was SM for San Diego, and I would be writing my article for
the July issue, in May. I would be writing how much fun we had at field
day, which had not even occurred yet, just trying to keep it current.
Now, the plus side.....
There would be no line limitation. An SM could write as much as he or she
likes. The font size would be readable. Most importantly, it would be up to
date. An SM could update the site with almost instantaneous action. It
would include special alerts etc. The new section website could include
pictures as well. The new Section websites are online now. Go to
www.arrl.org and click on section websites.
If you are not yet a website member, I would encourage you to do so. Make
sure you sign up to receive the section/division news. As for the Division,
Art W6XD, and me, are putting out an E-Communicator. In this way, we will
keep our members of the Southwestern Division updated. Always feel free to
send either Art or me your comments, whether pro or con. 73,

Jack,
The decision to remove contest scores and SM news has been tabled and will
go under a six month review. Seems the ARRL needs to makeup a $100,000
deficit and it was proposed to put contest scores and Section Manager news
on the website and remove them entirely from QST. THis has been met with a
lot of opposition from all 71 sections, the downside (maybe not) is we'll
see different type adds that don't neccesarilly have anything to do with
radio (Coke, Airlines, etc.) to makeup for the lack of advertising income.

FYI...the new survey on the ARRL web site asks if you participated in
the VHF SS. In light of the possibility of contest results not being
published in QST, this may be a good opportunity for *all of us* to go
to the web page...
http://www.arrl.org
and indicate that you did operate the contest...assuming you *did*
participate...strength in numbers is the way it works, I guess. I've
already cast my vote...
Thanks and 73,
Jack, W7PW
