Hi there... A lot of you know me, but some don't. I am the WSWSS Webmaster
and a charter member of the WSWSS. I am also the President of the Anaheim
Amateur Radio Association, my local radio club. The AARA provides public
service communications to a variety of local events in the Anaheim
area. One of these events that we handle every year is the Anaheim Juniors
(sanctioned) Tennis Tournament. We are a little short-handed this year and
we need a few more operators to round out our effort. The event is May 4th
and May 5th. There is also an event on May 12th. We are looking for people
who can operate any or all of the days. We are flexible in scheduling.

This is a very easy event to operate and prior public service event
knowledge is not necessary. What we do is sit quietly by until there are
scores completed (matches played). Then we go on the air and transmit
those scores to the Anaheim Tennis Center (ATC). The Tennis Center will
then post the scores on the walls for people to see and in addition they
post them to the internet (www.tennisresults.com). Our efforts saves the
administration countless hours in getting prepared for the next days action.

Each operator will operate alone (but may have friends along). Duty is
intermittent with hours of waiting on scores. Then when scores are
available, you will contact Net Control and transmit the scores. One
should bring along something to read or do while waiting, or just watch the
matches.

Bring along chair(s), shade (awning), perhaps drinking water, although
water will be present at most sites. Not all sites have shade.

Here is the big reward... Lunch will be provided by the sponsor of the event.

All you will need is a radio capable of operating the 440 (70cm) band as we
will be using a high level 440 repeater to communicate. This repeater can
be operated from hand held radios without a problem.

The various tennis sites are located in the Anaheim area.

Operating hours are 7:30 am to about 6:00 pm. Times are the same Saturday
and Sunday. 4 May and 5 May. You may operate all or half days or BOTH
days. We have need for some participation on the 12 of May also.

Contact Jim Edds via email at [email protected] or 714-952-1338 to
volunteer or to ask questions.

So if you can help out, we would greatly appreciate it!!!

Thanks & 73,
Neil Jessen - N6VHF
