Glen,

Look at it this way. If I stood on the corner and handed out $100.00 bills
to people walking by, there would always be someone complaining that I
didn't have any fifties!!!

:-)

Keep up the good work. It is appreciated.

Subject: [WRL] Captain Whizbang

I hate to address the entire list about this matter.
However, there is a person who calls himself Captain
Whizbang who is critical of the fact that I posted
that I have made available "olde tyme" QSL card
artwork, including the old WRL card, on one of my
websites.

I would reply directly to that person EXCEPT that he
only accepts E-Mail from people who actually apply to
be allowed to be on his "approved" list. I tried to
reply directly to him but got the message telling me
that I had to apply to be approved before I could
E-Mail him directly. Frankly, I have no reason to
apply to be on his approved list.

He is complaining that the QSL artwork information is
NOT appropriate for the WRL reflector and the he
subscribed to the reflector ONLY to get information
that directly concerns WRL equipment and nothing else.

Frankly, I have received over 400 E-Mails from various
amateur radio operators about the artwork and his are
the only complaints! I have received a number of
E-Mails directly as the result of the two posts here
on the WRL reflector.

Of course he is entitled to his personal opinion as to
what is appropriate and what is not appropriate to be
posted on this, or any other, reflector. However, it
is MY personal opinion that information that is
relative to "boat anchor" collecting, restoration, and
so forth does NOT have to be of a "hands on" technical
nature (like what component causes a particular
problem, etc.) but also includes other information.
This other information can include things like
advertisements, magazine articles, QSL artwork (which
is free for the downloading from the K9STH site), how
to use various rigs (tune up, performance, etc.), how
to build antennas to use with the WRL equipment, and
so forth.

Unfortunately, Captain Whizbang has his own agenda
which, again, is certainly his right. But, I am
getting tired of his "snide remarks" about the fact
that I am trying to help the boat anchor community by
providing some things that, according to the over 400
amateur radio operators who have replied to my offers
for the artwork. Since he has the ability to pick and
choose just who is approved to communicate with him by
E-Mail I suggest that he just use the "ignore" feature
of his E-Mail program so that he doesn't even have to
use the "delete" key so that he doesn't have to read
my posts.

Again, I am very sorry that I have had to resort to
this E-Mail to the entire reflector. If Captain
Whizbang didn't require me to seek being approved to
even communicate with him via E-Mail then there would
have been no need for this information to be made
public.

For those who are interested in the "olde tyme" QSL
artwork it can be found on the K9STH website the URL
of which is listed at the end of this message.

I cannot express my distaste for having to send a
message to the entire list instead of being able to
communicate directly with Captain Whizbang.

Glen, K9STH
