The UM-1 was the plate modulator sold by WRL for use
with all sorts of transmitters in the up to around 100
watt input range. Also, they sold the SM-90 screen
modulator. This was specifically designed for the
Globe Chief 90 and 90A models. However, there were
instructions in the manual on how to use the modulator
with a number of the "Novice" type transmitters.

I had an SM-90 that I used with my original Globe
Chief 90A when I upgraded to General Class in November
of 1959. Fortunately, I was able to find another one
a couple of years ago, along with a WRL 755 VFO, for
the "re-creation" of my first "General Class" primary
station (along with a Hallicrafters S-107 receiver).
