[WRL] Globe Chief Oscillator

Have you tried several crystals?  Sometimes, the old
crystals go bad.

Also, there is a modification that was "supposed to"
be made when using the Globe Chief series with a VFO. 
I don't have the manual handy on my Globe Chief 90A,
but I think that you short out a capacitor or an r.f.
choke.  With that modification made, the 6AG7 will not
oscillate, it acts as a buffer / multiplier.  Frankly,
the rig works fine with a VFO without making the
modification.  You might check the schematic against
what is actually there.

I made the modification in my original Globe Chief 90A
back in 1959 and then took it out.  The rig worked
fine with my WRL 755 VFO either way and I could still
use crystal control with the modification out.
