2015 Dayton Hamvention live webcast
May 15, 16, 17, 2015
This week: Special edition - Live webcast of world's largest amateur radio gathering
The 2015 Dayton Hamvention is held in Dayton, Ohio, USA and has been around for over 50 years. It is the largest hamfest in the world, with both inside and outside flea market vendors. Last year's attendance was approximately 25,000 with worldwide attendance. W5KUB.com has been webcasting this event for 14 years. For viewers that cannot attend in person, this virtual webcast is the next best thing to being there. During Hamvention the W5KUB.com webcast viewers will see thousands of other amateur radio operators (hams) as they visit, watch their friends wave or say hello to friends and family at home, and meet our special guests. In addition, thousands of dollars in prizes will be awarded to the W5KUB webcast viewers. All prizes are amateur radio related and have been donated by the following vendors: ABR Industries, ARRL, Associated Radio, Balun Designs, Begali, BHI, Buckmaster, CQ Communications, DX Engineering, EZHang, Gifts4Hams, GigaParts, Gold Metal Ideas, Gold Print Services, Heil Sound, HTD Software, ICOM, Kantronics, KB3IFH, LDG Electronics, Mastrant, MFJ, MicroLog, NCG, Peet Prothers, Quicksilver Radio, Ten-Tec, TG Electronics, Tigertronics, Times Microwave, etc. Prize eligibility requires a viewer to log into the chat room, listen for their name to be called, and respond in the chat room within the allotted time. Viewers must have a registered W5KUB.com account so they can be located if they win a prize. Registration is simple, takes less than a minute, and only requires your email address, and your chosen User Name and Password. User information will not be shared beyond W5KUB.com.
Tuesday, May 12, evening. The weekly regular webcast of Amateur Radio Roundtable will not be held. Instead, there will be a live feed with videos of the W5KUB team packing for the Dayton Hamvention trip that begins Wednesday morning. Viewers can still chat in the chat room and watch some interesting videos.
Wednesday, May 13, 8:00 AM CDT (1300 UTC) the excitement begins as the W5KUB.COM webcast team begins their 500 mile drive from Collierville, Tennessee to Dayton, Ohio. This drive takes about 10 hours and will be streamed live. Viewers can communicate with the team through the chat room as they are enroute. Watch the beautiful scenery, watch other hams on the road, take rest breaks with the team, watch them maneuver through storms and construction, and maybe they will make the trip without being delayed by the highway police! Thursday, May 14th,, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EDT (1300 - 2100 UTC) watch the W5KUB team set up at Hamvention. There will be live feeds running on backup connections as they set up the Exede Ka Band satellite internet uplink. This satellite uplink provides the necessary bandwidth for the highest quality video and audio from the event. Watch the booth set up in the Silver Arena (SA301-SA302). Although this is a set-up day, there will be special guests visiting the booth. You never know what or who you will see! Friday, May 15, 8:00 AM EDT (1200 UTC) until 5:00 PM EDT - guests, vendor interviews and demonstrations, and prizes Saturday May 16 8:00 AM EDT (1200 UTC) until 5:00 PM EDT - guests, vendor interviews and demonstrations, prizes, and announcement of GigaParts Mid-Sweepstakes Prize at 2:00. Sunday May 27th, 8:00 AM EDT (1200 UTC) until 2:00 PM EDT - guests, vendor interviews and demonstrations, and prizes. After Hamvention ends, the webcast will continue throughout the 500 mile drive back to Collierville, TN.
