Subject: [amateurradiomilwaukee] Whitewater Emergency Management is hosting Kids Day!

Don't forget tomorrow, Sunday Jan. 6th the Whitewater Emergency Management is hosting a local event of The American Radio Relay (ARRL) League's Kids Day!

Kids Day is an on-air event to encourage young people, licensed or not, to have fun with Amateur radio. It is designed to give on the air experience to youngsters and hopefully foster interest in getting a license of their own.

It is also intended to give older ham radio operators a chance to share their station and love for amateur radio with children. Why not join us January 6, 2013, from 12PM until 6PM at the Cravath Park Lakeside Pavilion, located at 341 South Fremont St. Whitewater, WI 53190?

Besides achieving their first radio contact with another amateur radio operator, potentially anywhere around the globe, children, parents, and anyone interested will have access to informative literature on ham radio, Morse Code, Severe Weather Spotting, preparing for severe weather, and the National Weather Service.

Radio contacts will be provided by the Tri-County Amateur Radio Club and Jefferson County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (JefCARES), as well as assistance by Lake Area Amateur Radio Club (LAARC).

JefCARES will also have their communications trailer on site for viewing, along with a demonstration of amateur radio TV. Also, local hams are providing Morse Code demonstrations.

In addition, a severe weather spotter from Whitewater's Severe Weather Spotters will answer questions from kids and adults of all ages. Along with that, MASA, the Milwaukee Area Skywarn Association is providing education literature, as well as a representative to help answer questions.
