Subject: SKYWARN: Kid's Day (Amateur Radio Event)
SKYWARN Representative at Kid's Day 2012 Event
The Lakes Area
Amateur Radio Club will sponsor their second "Kid's
Day" event at
the Darien Town Hall this saturday January
8th from Noon till 6 PM.
Milwaukee Area Skywarn Associate Greg
Schulz (W9AWX) will also be there to explain
the benefits
of amateur radio and its strong relationship with area storm spotters.
Kid's Day is designed to encourage young people on how
amateur radio can be an
enjoyable hobby and also show
the essential benefits it provides during emergency
and disaster
situations when all other communication systems fail.
Amateur
radio is about communications, but it also expands on a young person's
math, science, electrical, and geography skill sets. Things they will need
as adults.
Free and open to the public, 12N to 6PM, at the Darien
Town Hall in Walworth County.
Handouts, flyers, on-air radio
demonstrations, County Communications Van, amateur
radio club
representatives, and possible contact with the International Space
Station.

Skywarn is the identification, evaluation, and reporting of dangerous
weather.
Everyone talks about the weather, but storm spotters do
something about it. Fear is not an option.
