TWO FORUMS ARE PLANNED FOR KARS 28TH ANNUAL HAMFEST
1. YOUTH AND AMATEUR RADIO IN THE CLASSROOM:
The Story of the W9GRS Amateur Radio Station Presenter - Troy J. Simpson (W9KVR).
8th grade Earth Science teacher Troy Simpson will talk about the Amateur Radio Club station
and student program at Glenn Raymond School in Watseka, IL. The school was awarded an
ARRL Stations in Schools Grant in 2008. Specifically Troy will share his experiences of helping
the students at Glenn Raymond School get on air and involved in various aspects of amateur radio.
Topics will in-clude how the school got started in radio, the challenges of getting on air,
student licensing, local Amateur Radio Club in-volvement, contesting, and the sweet suc-cess of
students earning their tickets, and making that rare DX QSO!
Students are earning their tickets, Troy will speak on the experience.
Troy asks if you hear W9GRS, followed by a few other "9" calls,
it maybe some of his students trying to pick up a new one!
2. FLEX RADIO A Flex operator’s Perspective By Ken Buser W9YNI
SDR fundamentals and operating the FLEX.
Ken will also describe his "beefed up" Flex-5000 with a 6-Core AMD powerhouse.
