Subject: Situation Report #2 on Severe Weather

The State Emergency Operations Center continues to receive reports of flooding
across Central Wisconsin. Governor Doyle has declared a State of Emergency for
Trempealeau County as a result of flooding in the Arcadia area. The State
Emergency Operations Center is activated and is in contact with county and
tribal emergency management offices.
The National Weather Service reports that more severe weather with heavy rains
and strong winds will continue throughout the day. Some areas are reporting over
4 inches of rain. Several rivers and creeks are flooding. Department of Natural
Resources is monitoring dams in west central area.
Below is an update of damage:
Trempealeau County: Portions of Arcadia was evacuated this morning. The Red
Cross has opened a shelter at the Arcadia National Guard Armory. Approximately
30 people are registered there. Department of Military Affairs is currently
transporting 20,000 sandbags and a sandbagging machine from Camp Douglas to
Arcadia. Wisconsin National Guard soldiers are in Arcadia supporting local
officials with checkpoint operations and standing by to provide evacuation
assistance. Major businesses including
Golden Plump and Ashley Furniture are closed. About 300 Ashley Furniture
employees are assisting with sandbagging efforts.
Brown County: Brown County is reporting some road flooding Clark County: Minor
flooding
Marquette County: Localized flooding in the Village of Black Creek
Waupaca County: A section of Highway C is closed due to flood waters Winnebago
County: Minor flooding
Monroe County: Minor road washouts on County Highways G, U, Z and O
Marathon County: Minor flooding reported. Several roads are closed
Oneida County: Minor flooding
Portage County: Minor flooding with some road closures
Shawano County: Officials report 3-5 inches of rain causing some roads that are
closed due to flooding or flood damage
Wood County: Several roads are closed.
The State Emergency Operations Center will remain open. Wisconsin Emergency
Management, Wisconsin Department of Transportation, State Patrol, Wisconsin
National Guard and Wisconsin Department of Health Services are in the EOC.
