This June 12, the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer) and
the TREK Bicycle Co. will be sponsoring the 21st Annual TREK 100 Ride for
Hope. Your help is needed.
This event is a series of bicycle rides including 10, 30, 65 and 100 mile
routes. The ride raises money for research into and cures for childhood
cancers, Leukemia and Sickle Cell Anemia. Ham radio has been an integral
part of this event since 1994 making our participation this year number 17.
In that time we hams have helped to raise MILLIONS of dollars for the cause
of defeating childhood cancers.
This year, more than ever, we need the help of good ham radio operators
willing to work this event. There are many requests for our amateur radio
capabilities but never more than in June of each year. This year is no
exception and with multiple events occurring all over southeastern Wisconsin
the number of hams available to volunteer is being taxed. That's why we
need the help of more than the usual crew of hams that volunteer for these
events year after year. This is YOUR chance to participate in a worthwhile
endeavor while at the same time using the ham radio skills and equipment
that we all enjoy.
The 2010 TREK 100 Ride for Hope is being held Saturday, June 12 2010. All
four of the bicycle routes begin and end at the TREK Bicycle headquarters
offices and manufacturing facility located in Waterloo, WI. Assignments
generally begin early - between 6:30a and 10:30a with most in the 7:00a to
8:00a hour. Assignments include Rest Stops, Sag Vehicles (trucks that pick
up sagging riders), Shadows (following ride management to assure that they
are in constant contact with Net Control) and Net Control Operators. Both
experienced and inexperienced hams are welcome. What you don't know you'll
learn.
There is an after-action party with food and beverages for all riders and
volunteers after the ride.
Please consider joining us for this great event. It's fun and gives hams a
chance to shine.
If you would like to volunteer, please navigate to the TREK 100 Ham
Volunteer Registration web page that is found at:
http://www.n9rtm.com
Your registration begins there. All information about the event including
assignments, route maps, rosters and informational documents will be
distributed there as we get closer to the date of the ride. Volunteers
should be prepared to work all day if the assignment requires it. Because
of the locale of the event, hams should come prepared with a minimum of a
25w mobile radio and antenna or an HT with a similarly powered amp along
with auto mounted antenna.
Remember, YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. NOW MORE THAN EVER! Please join us June
12th!
See you in June,
Erich Berman N9RTM
