Hey guys,
With less than the usual trauma, I managed to get N1MM+ to work tonight with
keying my Yaesu. It SHOULD key any other radio as well as it is NOT
interfaced for "rig control", just for keying. If we want to go beyond
this, I'm ok with that, but this should "get us by". It will simply require
manually changing the band in the program when we switch bands.
I'm going to haul the radio, the laptop, the power supply and associated
cabling to the Red Cross tomorrow and try hooking it up at about 3 pm. I
have an aphresis appointment at 1:15, so I might not quite be done that
early. Anyone who is interested is welcome to come and help with setup and
testing.
We established on Monday that there are coax runs between the meeting room
and the club room. It should be simple to hook a coax to the proper antenna
port in the club room and run it to the meeting room for hookup. We know
the beam is working fine. I will try the vertical and the wire with the
Yaesu and the tuner.
Using N1MM+ is pretty simple. We'll have a quick tutorial for anyone who is
operating as it should be the same for the computers for all modes. Each
computer will be dedicated to a single mode (SSB, CW, digi). We'll be
signing 3F IL.
I have had no communication from anyone from Hannibal except Don and Cliff.
Please let the rest know they are welcome to participate! I have made no
attempt (probably a mistake) at this point to get a sign-up sheet for
operating times. I don't think there will be a lot of competition for
operating slots. I know I have to leave at a reasonable time on Saturday
night as I am speaking at three places on Sunday morning. Yes..really poor
planning.. W9WE is going to help with late shift, and I'm pretty sure K0CA
is going to help somewhere along the line.
I don't have an e-mail for AA9GL for some reason. I'll try to contact him
another way. I may just copy this to the whole WIARC reflector..
I'll probably bring the FT991a from the other car as a spare unless someone
else wants to bring a backup radio. Anyone planning to operate should bring
a set of headphones. CW operators may want to bring a favorite paddle as
we'll have paddles paralleled with the N1MM+ keying interface.
