Field Day is "on". We have permission to operate from the American Red Cross building in Quincy on June 25 and 26. I have stuck my neck out (never a good idea for poultry to do this..) and am "chairing" the event. Several notes: 1) There appear to be no restrictions concerning masks during our occupation of the facility. Those who wish to wear masks may do so, but they are not required, and no questions will be asked regarding COVID-19 vaccination status. Anyone who does not feel well should stay home.. 2) There will be no carry-in dinner. There will be snacks and bottled water available. Attendees may feel free to bring food and water if they so desire. 3) Setup will begin about 10:30 a.m. on Saturday as some of us will be involved in the Raider Run earlier that morning. The intent is to run our operation for the full 24-hour period, from 1 pm Saturday until 1 pm Sunday. Success in doing this will depend upon having some dedicated operators and doing some planning ahead of time regarding operating schedules. It happens that I will be otherwise occupied for most of Sunday morning with speaking engagements. I will, however, be back in time to help tear down the station. 4) Some of us need to get together prior to the weekend to check out equipment, some of which has not been used in months. The intention (probably) is to run an SSB station and digital station from the club room and a CW station from the meeting room next door. The CW station will be using something other than club equipment. At this point, I don't know if we will need to erect antennas in addition to the ones that are in place (beam, dipole, vertical). 5) I need to hear from anyone who is interested in participating, be it set up, operate, observe or tear down. Please reply to me at mailto:n9jf at arrl.net ASAP. Cliff, please pass this on to the Hannibal group as they are invited to participate. 73, Jim N9JF From n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com Sun Jun 19 21:00:29 2022 From: n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com (n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com) Date: Sun, 19 Jun 2022 20:00:29 -0500 Subject: [WIARC] Field Day prep Message-ID: <006201d88441$22e3e150$68aba3f0$@gmail.com> Hey troops, I'm planning to be at the club station tomorrow afternoon to check on some equipment setup for Field Day. I'd be happy to involve anyone who might be available. We need to see that both an SSB station and digital station can operate from the club room. At some other point (not sure which day), I'll bring in a radio or two to set up on the meeting room next door for the CW station. We need to be sure we know how the cables are routed from the club room (through the ceiling?) to the meeting room, which ones are which and how to get them hooked for CW without messing up anything for the other stations. We also need to ensure that logging can be accomplished on all three stations. We can also brainstorm whether or not we want to set up other antennas. And.whatever else needs discussing. Please let me know if you can help. 73, Jim N9JF From n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com Sun Jun 19 20:54:37 2022 From: n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com (n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com) Date: Sun, 19 Jun 2022 19:54:37 -0500 Subject: [WIARC] Field Day Message-ID: <005301d88440$51d6e1c0$f584a540$@gmail.com> Hey troops, I'm planning to be at the club station tomorrow afternoon to check on some equipment setup for Field Day. It SHOULD key any other radio as well as it is NOT interfaced for "rig control", just for keying. If we want to go beyond this, I'm ok with that, but this should "get us by". It will simply require manually changing the band in the program when we switch bands. I'm going to haul the radio, the laptop, the power supply and associated cabling to the Red Cross tomorrow and try hooking it up at about 3 pm. I have an aphresis appointment at 1:15, so I might not quite be done that early. Anyone who is interested is welcome to come and help with setup and testing. We established on Monday that there are coax runs between the meeting room and the club room. It should be simple to hook a coax to the proper antenna port in the club room and run it to the meeting room for hookup. We know the beam is working fine. I will try the vertical and the wire with the Yaesu and the tuner. Using N1MM+ is pretty simple. We'll have a quick tutorial for anyone who is operating as it should be the same for the computers for all modes. Each computer will be dedicated to a single mode (SSB, CW, digi). We'll be signing 3F IL. I have had no communication from anyone from Hannibal except Don and Cliff. Please let the rest know they are welcome to participate! I have made no attempt (probably a mistake) at this point to get a sign-up sheet for operating times. I don't think there will be a lot of competition for operating slots. I know I have to leave at a reasonable time on Saturday night as I am speaking at three places on Sunday morning. Yes..really poor planning.. W9WE is going to help with late shift, and I'm pretty sure K0CA is going to help somewhere along the line. I don't have an e-mail for AA9GL for some reason. I'll try to contact him another way. I may just copy this to the whole WIARC reflector.. I'll probably bring the FT991a from the other car as a spare unless someone else wants to bring a backup radio. Anyone planning to operate should bring a set of headphones. CW operators may want to bring a favorite paddle as we'll have paddles paralleled with the N1MM+ keying interface. 73, Jim N9JF From nr9q at hotmail.com Fri Jun 24 20:59:16 2022 From: nr9q at hotmail.com (Chris Schulz) Date: Sat, 25 Jun 2022 00:59:16 +0000 Subject: [WIARC] Field Day Breakfast Message-ID: Good evening crew, If anyone is interested in breakfast Field Day morning. Dave (KB9FIN) and I are meeting at Coach House at 8:30. From there we are going to go play around with setup fun at the Red Cross. Don?t have to go out to Red Cross that early, but to feel free to stop by for Breakfast. 73 Chris Schulz NR9Q From n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com Fri Jun 24 21:56:10 2022 From: n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com (n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com) Date: Fri, 24 Jun 2022 20:56:10 -0500 Subject: [WIARC] FD setup Message-ID: <006301d88836$be9a1490$3bce3db0$@gmail.com> Hey all, You are welcome to start setup as early as you like on Saturday. I will not be there until about 9:30 due to the Raider Run. W9WE has my key to get into the building and the club room. We set up all three stations today, and the three existing antennas "work". Please some prepared to express your desire for an operating slot. I know K0CA is planning to help with CW sometime on Saturday and then again on Sunday morning. W9WE will likely do some of the late shift on CW. I will be there from the beginning until late Saturday night but will not be back until almost teardown (last church service starts at 11:00 am). WA9GBC has the digital station working on FT8, and I'm sure he would be happy to give a tutorial to anyone else wanting to operate that mode. 73, Jim N9JF
