The June meeting date is getting close and since it is a pretty sure thing we will not be allowed to meet as a group in June, how many members are willing to use Zoom for an online meeting? Many other groups have used and are continuing to use Zoom without any major problems. We will need a quorum which is ten members, including at least one officer before any business can be conducted. If we cannot get more than 10 a quorum to agree to use Zoom, there is no reason to pursue it. The other option is an on the air meeting, which I am not sure is the best idea and we would still need a quorum to conduct business. If we do an online meeting, it will be just the necessities. If you have questions, I will so what I can to answer them, so fire away. Alternatives are being investigated; you hopefully received an email asking about the use of Zoom. If you do not know what Zoom is or what it takes to use it, I will try to answer your questions, so don't hesitate to ask. Field Day with Hannibal is off, check out the June newsletter for more on that and what we can do instead. A little inter-club and intra-club competition might be fun. The current plan is to have the June meeting by conference call at 7 pm on Wednesday June 3. Pursuant to that, I'd like to test the system THIS WEDNESDAY, May 27 following the ARES nets on 147.030 and 146.940. As soon as the second net session ends, please dial in if you can. The call-in number is 425/436-6304 The pass code is 834598#. I don't think you can get into the call until the moderator checks in. This will just be to see if the system works ok and doesn't overload. We want to be sure we can have a quorum for the meeting on the 3rd. 73, Jim N9JF From n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com Wed May 27 16:29:58 2020 From: n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com (n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com) Date: Wed, 27 May 2020 15:29:58 -0500 Subject: [WIARC] FW: test conf call In-Reply-To: <00ef01d632ec$cd925bc0$68b71340$@gmail.com> References: <00ef01d632ec$cd925bc0$68b71340$@gmail.com> Message-ID: <000901d63465$97709f50$c651ddf0$@gmail.com> Reminder about tonight's "test call" in preparation for next Wednesday night's on-phone meeting. Therefore, we will attempt to use the same system next Wednesday, June 3, for the regular WIARC monthly meeting. It is important that we have at least 10 members, including an elected club officer, present on the call for this meeting to conduct business! Please make every attempt to call in and be included in the attendance count. Please call as close to 7 pm as possible so the meeting can proceed on time. If more than one of you are at the same location, be sure we know that for the quorum determination. Also, please find out how to mute your phone audio if possible, and keep it muted unless you wish to make a comment or ask a question or vote on an issue. This will avoid having feedback degrade the quality of the call for all of the participants. We will try to give plenty of time to "mute and unmute" so that no one gets left out of the discussions. Voting will be by NG9R (or whoever is presiding) calling specifically for a "yes" or "no" vote from all, individually, who have called in. The call-in information will be the same as tonight's: Call-in number: 425/436-6304. Passcode: 834598# At this point, you should be included in the conversation. Early on, I will turn the meeting over to NG9R (who has been asked to conduct the meeting unless K9FHX is present). He will continue to take "check-ins" and will conduct the business meeting. Danny will post a proposed agenda here within the next couple of days. Included will be a Treasurer's Report, a quick item regarding Field Day (which will NOT be held in conjunction with HARC as planned but will consist of individual stations as they can be assembled), discussion of the August 8 hamfest and acting upon at least two applications for membership. There may be brief items of information from the Repeater Board. Danny will attempt to hold the total meeting time to 15-30 minutes. We realize that some of you may not have unlimited long distance. If calling in (which WILL BE A TOLL CALL) constitutes a problem for you, please notify n9jf at arrl.net and send me a phone number at which you can be reached. We will try to find a way to include you in the call by calling you. Please let me know if you have questions or comments. 73, Jim N9JF From n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com Thu May 28 20:46:37 2020 From: n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com (n9jfcountyhunter at gmail.com) Date: Thu, 28 May 2020 19:46:37 -0500 Subject: [WIARC] Field Day changes Message-ID: <005d01d63552$9c6c9340$d545b9c0$@gmail.com> Field Day is a month away, but I hope you are planning to participate. There will be NO "in person gathering" for WIARC (or HARC, I'm assuming) for Field Day in 2020. However, individual stations are encouraged to get on the air. Here are some recent changes to rules that will significantly impact the event: (73, Jim N9JF) Temporary Rule Waivers Announced for 2020 ARRL Field Day 05/28/2020 With one month to go before 2020 ARRL Field Day, June 27 - 28, the ARRL Programs and Services Committee (PSC) has adopted two temporary rule waivers for the event: 1) For Field Day 2020 only, Class D stations may work all other Field Day stations, including other Class D stations, for points. Field Day rule 4.6 defines Class D stations as "Home stations," including stations operating from permanent or licensed station locations using commercial power. Class D stations ordinarily may only count contacts made with Class A, B, C, E, and F Field Day stations, but the temporary rule waiver for 2020 allows Class D stations to count contacts with other Class D stations for QSO credit. 2) In addition, for 2020 only, an aggregate club score will be published, which will be the sum of all individual entries indicating a specific club (similar to the aggregate score totals used in ARRL affiliated club competitions). Ordinarily, club names are only published in the results for Class A and Class F entries, but the temporary rule waiver for 2020 allows participants from any Class to optionally include a single club name with their submitted results following Field Day. For example, if Podunk Hollow Radio Club members Becky, W1BXY, and Hiram, W1AW, both participate in 2020 Field Day - Hiram from his Class D home station, and Becky from her Class C mobile station - both can include the radio club's name when reporting their individual results. The published results listing will include individual scores for Hiram and Becky, plus a combined score for all entries identified as Podunk Hollow Radio Club. The temporary rule waivers were adopted by the PSC on May 27, 2020. ARRL Field Day is one of the biggest events on the amateur radio calendar, with over 36,000 participants in 2019, including entries from 3,113 radio clubs and emergency operations centers. In most years, Field Day is also the largest annual demonstration of ham radio, because many radio clubs organize their participation in public places such as parks and schools. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many radio clubs have made decisions to cancel their group participation in ARRL Field Day this year due to public health recommendations and/or requirements, or to significantly modify their participation for safe social distancing practices. The temporary rule waivers allow greater flexibility in recognizing the value of individual and club participation regardless of entry class. ARRL is contacting logging program developers about the temporary rule waivers so developers can release updated versions of their software prior to Field Day weekend. Participants are reminded that the preferred method of submitting entries after Field Day is via the web applet. The ARRL Field Day rules include instructions for submitting entries after the event. Entries must be submitted or postmarked by Tuesday, July 28, 2020. The ARRL Field Day web page includes a series of articles with ideas and advice for adapting participation this year. We will start at 7:00 PM. K9FHX may not be in town but may join the teleconference. If he does not, I have agreed to chair the meeting in his place. The meeting needs to be short and to the point so we will probably not cover other than what is deemed time sensitive items. I really hope to limit the meeting to under 30 minutes. On the agenda will be; Treasurer's report a final decision about our hamfest in August a couple of new membership applications what we can do for Field Day an announcement from the repeater board. old or new business that I have overlooked that needs attention. The number to call for the teleconference is 425-436-6304 and the passcode is 834598# Starting at 7:00, I will be logging stations as they join the call, after a few minutes to allow everyone to get checked in, I will start the business meeting. I will need the call sign from each person on the conference call so we know for sure we have a quorum to conduct club business. Our bylaws state we must have at least 10 members in good standing and at least on officer for a quorum. If any motions are divided, we may have to have a roll call vote, but hopefully that will not be necessary. Any questions may be directed to me, either through the reflector or direct.
