From nr9q at hotmail.com Tue Jul 11 20:52:04 2017 From: nr9q at hotmail.com (Chris Schulz) Date: Wed, 12 Jul 2017 00:52:04 +0000 Subject: [WIARC] New digital mode Message-ID: If anyone is at all interested in digital, there is a new digital mode to try. The mode is called FT8. It uses a more narrow signal than that of JT65. The article that I will link to below talk more about the mode and its development. I went ahead and installed WSJT-X 1.8.0rc tonight and gave it a go on 6m. After a few calls I got a reply from N0TB already. This contact was done in a minute. JT65 takes much longer and has to key up at the start of the minute. This mode will key up as soon as you push enable. Transmits for a little shy of 15 seconds, decodes, listens for 15, then transmits again. This modes is really worth a look. 73 Chris Schulz NR9Q http://qrznow.com/release-wsjt-x-version-1-8-0/ Get Outlook for iOS From dpease at adams.net Tue Jul 25 22:07:53 2017 From: dpease at adams.net (Danny Pease) Date: Tue, 25 Jul 2017 21:07:53 -0500 Subject: [WIARC] FW: SUPPORT THE AMATEUR RADIO PARITY ACT ! S. 1534 Hello - Please add your voice to the support for the Amateur Radio Parity Act S. 1534 ! The ARRL Rally Page, https://arrl.rallycongress.net/ctas/urge-us-senate-to-support-amateur-radio-parity-act is a simple manner in which to send your comments to your Senator. When I was visiting the offices of the Senators from Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana last week, something that I did hear often was that the Senator's staff would like to hear from our membership. By using this Rally Page we can insure that your comments are hand-delivered directly to each Senator's office. If you have any questions about the legislation please feel free to email me at W9XA at ARRL.ORG A copy of ARRL President Rick Roderick, K5UR's call to action is included below. 73, Kermit Carlson W9XA Director, ARRL Central Division http://www.central.arrl.org/ >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> from; http://www.arrl.org/news/ arrl-president-issues-call-for-members-to-reach-out-to-their-senators-to-support-s-1534 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> ARRL President Rick Roderick, K5UR, is calling on League members to urge their US Senators to support the Amateur Radio Parity Act of 2017, S. 1534. ARRL has opened a RallyCongress page to simplify the task. ?[W]e are at a crossroad in our efforts to obtain passage of The Amateur Radio Parity Act,? Roderick said. He said the campaign to secure passage of the bill scored a major victory earlier this year when H.R. 555 passed unanimously in the US House of Representatives. Obtaining passage of the companion Senate bill, S. 1534, is the final legislative hurdle. ?Now is the time for all hams to get involved in the process!? Roderick said. ?Many of you already live in deed-restricted communities, and that number grows daily.? He urged radio amateurs now restricted by a Homeowners Association from installing effective outdoor antennas to visit the RallyCongress site and e-mail their two US Senators. He also encouraged those not now affected by deed covenants, conditions, and restrictions (CC&Rs) to support their fellow radio amateurs by doing the same. ?If you want to help create an opportunity ? not available before now ? for Amateurs who live in deed restricted communities to install effective outdoor antennas on property that they own or lease, send these e-mails today!? Roderick said. ?We need you to reach out to your Senators today. Right away.? S. 1534 was introduced in the US Senate on July 12, marking another step forward for this landmark legislation. Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) are the Senate sponsors. The measure will, for the first time, guarantee all radio amateurs living in deed-restricted communities governed by a Homeowners Association (HOA) or subject to any private land-use regulations, the right to erect and maintain effective outdoor antennas at their homes, while protecting the aesthetic concerns of HOAs. -------------------------------------------------------------------- ARRL Central Division Director: Kermit A Carlson, W9XA w9xa at arrl.org -------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe from messages, go to: http://p1k.arrl.org/oo/b660894d73386fef2d997c35f7716aa1 From dpease at adams.net Wed Jul 26 14:10:19 2017 From: dpease at adams.net (Danny Pease) Date: Wed, 26 Jul 2017 13:10:19 -0500 Subject: [WIARC] August newsletter and Swapfest Message-ID: <061401d3063a$70ef5800$52ce0800$@adams.net> First, Saturday August 12 is the Western Illinois ARC Swapfest. Please, if you do nothing else, come out and support the club's effort at the new location and bring a friend. Even better, come out and help for an hour or so. We will need volunteers to help vendors unload Friday evening, Saturday we will need volunteers to man the gate, direct parking, help with the club table, man the PA system and help with the food sales. Officially, the Swapfest starts at 8:00 AM but we all know people will show up well before that and the gate will need to be manned as early as 6:30. There will be a VE session held at 9:00 and a couple extra ARRL certified examiners would be welcome. We will also need a few bodies to help load the vendors up and to clean up afterwards. The new location is the Paloma Community Building, just over one block north of US 24. Turn north at the Paloma Diner, proceed to the end of the road and turn left into the park. There will be vendors, prizes, food, the VE exam session, lots of indoor tables and free tailgating with paid admission. Illinois Section Manager Ron Morgan, AD9I, will hold a forum at 10:00 AM. http://www.w9awe.org/Swapfest2017.pdf The August issue of the Western Illinois ARC is available for viewing and may be seen at: http://www.w9awe.org/feedline.pdf The August meeting will be Wednesday August 2, 7:30 PM at the Red Cross, 3000 N. 23rd in Quincy. Besides the business meeting, final details for the Swapfest will be ironed out.
