A the last meeting, it was mentioned there was a strange noise on the
147.030 repeater. Remember, the 147.030 and the 443.900 repeaters are both
now using Yaesu Fusion digital and analog hardware, you may hear some
strange noises out of the repeater if someone is using digital through the
repeater and you are listening on a analog FM radio. This will become more
likely as we see more local hams purchasing new radios. I just heard from
KA9CFD that he now has a Yaesu radio capable of the Yaesu digital modes, as
does KB9HGI and W9LEM.
Currently, the local Yaesu repeaters are set for automatic mode detection,
that is, if you use analog FM, the repeater puts out FM, if you use one of
the C4FM digital modes, the repeater will transmit in that mode. If that
becomes a real issue with the majority of the users, we may look at
dedicating one of the Yaesu repeaters to analog only, or at least analog
output.
Also, the 443.900 repeater is currently off the air for some repair. We do
not know how long it will be down, but the radio has been shipped back to
Yaesu for repair. As soon as they return it, it will go back in to service,
hopefully no more than a couple of weeks.
