From wiarc at mailman.qth.net Sat Apr 4 16:01:38 2015 From: wiarc at mailman.qth.net (Michael Black via WIARC) Date: Sat, 4 Apr 2015 15:01:38 -0500 Subject: [WIARC] HF Antenna Shootout Message-ID: <003d01d06f12$298d6090$7ca821b0$@yahoo.com> Here's some info on the HF Antenna Shootout we're having this month. The winner will receive a nice certificate showing your radio prowess. You have to use this software in this weblink. It's a snapshot of WSJT-X 1.5 which, if you're a user of WSJT-X, has 3X faster decoding speed than before and more sensitive decoding too. If you don't have computer control and audio from your rig this may be your opportunity to get hooked up. It also has changes that are to be included in a future version of JTAlert which will allow better integration of WSJT-X and JTAlert so you may answer QSOs from JTAlert directly instead of searching through the decodes in WSJT-X to find the one you want. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kzzty5w6szct8ix/wsjtx-1.5.0-devel-win32-r5089-UDP. exe?dl=0 JTAlert is the best companion program for WSJT-X and the JT65HF variants. I can't imagine doing JT65/JT9 modes without it. http://hamapps.com/ JTAlert integrates with several logging programs - Chris and I use Log4OM which completely automates eQSL uploads and makes LOTW uploads just a couple of clicks. The current leader of the shootout is Chris Schulz, NR9Q, nr9q at hotmail.com - you'll need to coordinate bands/times with him. No reason we can't do multiple people at the same time. What Chris & I did for this was run 80M overnight. So, basically, just leave your rig on 80M overnight and we can compare your log at any time to anybody else. If you can't do 80M you'll need to coordinate with the leader for a compatible band. You'll find a file in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\WSJT-X call ALL.TXT which contains all the decodes. That file needs to be emailed to me and will be run through some software I created that compares the decodes from two competitors. The winner of each will proceed to the next round. You may do multiple submissions if you wish. So, basically, just leave your rig on 80M overnight and we can compare your log at any time. I will email updates to the list as events unfold. if you have any questions or need help setting things up give me a call at 641-2814 or email me. If you install TeamViewer I can help you configure your system or provide any other computer help you may need. I'll update this table as logs get processed. The dbDiff shows the average dB difference between the two logs..the higher average is, of course, the winner. I would like to encourage all of you that possibly can to volunteer to help with this. At the most, you should only be there for 5 hours and many positions will only require a few hours. Please let John know if you can help or if you have any questions about the event. The route is the same as last year with the same communication needs and positions. Jerry will be out of town leading up to the event so I will be working on signing everybody up. The following are positions that we need people for: Friday afternoon or evening setup - Time to be determined (unless it was discussed at training the other night) Saturday Morning - 07:00 Briefing Communication startup and systems check - 2 people Net Control Operators - 3 people Water Stations - 8 people Medical - 3 people (1 at tent and 2 mobile) Other key communication locations - 6 people This is a total of 20 personnel at a minimum we need to make this event run smoothly. Every year the organizers are impressed with the abilities of amateur radio operators to report track conditions or locate issues and individuals along the multiple routes. I thank you for your past assistance and hope that we can again count on you for this year. If you are available to help please let me know by a return email. If you know of other amateur radio operators that may be interested please share this information with them. This opportunity is not only for EMA personnel. Thanks again and look forward to seeing you for Bridge the Gap!!
