This would not be a big effort but more of a fun event and a chance for some not exposed to contesting to get their feet wet. Times of operation will likely be spotty, depending on who has time to be there and I am pretty sure there will be no late night operation. N9JF and myself are willing to come in and be there to assist for a few hours each, depending on our individual schedules but we need to know if there is interest from any club members. If you think you are interested, either to operate or to just help, give me a shout, either email or landline, and we will see what we can work out. Anyone that has afterhours access is welcome to come and operate anytime, those that do not have afterhours access will need to know when someone will be the so they can come out as well. Once I hear from those with access and what their schedules are, I will post the days and times someone will be there for sure. Another thought is the ARRL 10 meter contest, December 13 & 14, it is another good contest to operate from the club station as a group or a single op, depending on operators. I am not sure how propagation will be, but I suspect it will still be a fun contest to put a few hours into. Be thinking about that and we will make a decision based on those that want to operate when we get closer to the time. All club members that want to operate a contest or just get on from the club station are welcome anytime they can get in, if it is a contest weekend there may have to be some scheduling down to make sure we don't have a conflict with who operates when, but if the club call is not going to be activated, you are always welcome to operate there with your own call, you do not have to use the club call. Discussion and questions are welcome, fire away! I don't have all the numbers, but in about 14 hours of operating we made around 420 QSO's and raw score was 268,380 points. We had a couple of first time contesters and I believe they all had a good time. N9JF provided a second 746 Pro radio for the second station when we found out the club 520 was not working. We were not able to interface the second radio to the computer but that did not seem to be much of an issue for this operation. N1MM software allowed us to network the two computers over LAN and other than not being able to log onto the DX spotting network with either computer Saturday, worked flawlessly. There will be several more opportunities to activate the club station for a contest, the season is just barely started. This coming weekend in ARRL Sweepstakes CW. This is a domestic contest and the exchange is pretty long and complicated, but if anyone is interested in trying it from the club station, let me know. Sweepstakes SSB will be two weeks after the CW version, CQWW CW is late in November and the ARRL 160 and 10 meter contests are in December. W9OAB totals for the CQWW SSB were as follows were 392 QSO's, 1065 points, 73 zones and 179 band/countries. The highest number of countries was 15 meters with 76 countries worked and 22 zones. 10 meters was 59 countries and 21 zones, 20 meters was 40 countries and 21 zones There were just a handful of countries worked on 160, 80 and 40. The W9OAB DXCC count confirmed on LoTW is now 48, just about double what it was before the weekend. Several more confirmations should come as some of the other stations upload logs. As soon as the log was processed W9OAB had almost 60 new confirmations. Nothing like a weekend DX contest and decent propagation to increase DXCC country count. Looking at some of the results from other Midwest contesters, as many as 149 countries were worked by one station on 10 meters this past weekend, So the activity and propagation did allow many to work DXCC in less than 48 hours this weekend. On November 8th a group of club members will be going to tour the contest station of Craig Thompson, just west of Peoria. We will need to leave Quincy by 9:00 AM to get to the restaurant to meet Craig, have lunch and tour his station afterwards. We should get back to Quincy around 5:00 PM. If you want to go and have not told me yet, let me know at the meeting Wednesday or email me by Wednesday night. Danny NG9R dpease at adams.net 217-430-2046
