From dpease at adams.net Tue Nov 4 11:55:30 2014 From: dpease at adams.net (Danny Pease) Date: Tue, 4 Nov 2014 10:55:30 -0600 Subject: [WIARC] request from AB9CB Message-ID: <078c01cff850$23efe470$6bcfad50$@net> I received this from Mary Anne Wilson, AB9CB and she asked to share. We will bring it up again at the club meeting as well. Many of us know Rick and may have a story to share. NG9R Hello from Omaha, Nebraska! As you are aware, w0kt (Rick Wilson,) will be celebrating 50 years as a licensed operator this month. He was first licensed on November 17,1964 and would like to celebrate this milestone with a small gathering at his favorite fast food restaurant, Fazoli's, in Bellevue, Nebraska, on Sunday, November 16th. I was trying to think of ways to make this a special day for Rick, and thought it would be nice if any of our fellow hams would like to share stories of operating with Rick or memories of how radio operation has changed over the past 50 years. I believe WIARC has a club meeting coming up very soon, and it would be great if you or Danny or Darryl would share this information with the club members and let them know that I would welcome hearing from those interested in sharing any stories or memories, or simply sending greetings to Rick. They may contact me by either snail mail or email which I am happy to print out and share on the 16th. My contact information may be found below. Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter. Sincerely, ab9cb Mary Anne Mary Anne Wilson 4907 Bernadette AVE Omaha, NE 68157 ------------------------------------ email mascmt at yahoo.com ------------------------------------- cell: 402-515-1048 From dpease at adams.net Wed Nov 5 12:03:43 2014 From: dpease at adams.net (Danny Pease) Date: Wed, 5 Nov 2014 11:03:43 -0600 Subject: [WIARC] W9OAB WA Message-ID: <087c01cff91a$74433060$5cc99120$@net> W9OAB Nov. 5, 2014 17:03 18.111 CW W1AW/7 599 599 WA From mnowack at comcast.net Thu Nov 6 01:22:10 2014 From: mnowack at comcast.net (mnowack at comcast.net) Date: Thu, 6 Nov 2014 06:22:10 +0000 (UTC) Subject: [WIARC] XCEL Cabillo Style Template for ILQP In-Reply-To: <545AF71B.50606@arrl.org> References: <0c6b01cff6c3$b8c5cc60$2a516520$@adams.net> <545AF71B.50606@arrl.org> Message-ID: <2138220376.2198432.1415254930621.JavaMail.zimbra@comcast.net> I have posted to the page announcing the 2104 ILQP, an EXCEL spreadsheet template which can be used to manually create a Cabrillo style log. Use this template to convert a handwritten log to a digital log which may then be emailed. Note the 'QSO:' which must be in cell A of each line of the QSO records. Also note that 'END-OF-LOG:' must appear in cell A of the next line following the last QSO record. In the template you will notice a small red triangle in the cells of the first line of QSO records. Placing the cursor over each of those cells will bring up the details of the information to be entered in that cell of each QSO record (line). Here is the link to the template: http://www.w9awe.org/Sample_Excel_Log.xlsx Once the form is populated, you may send it to Jim, N9JF at jfunk at fossna.com or n9jf at arrl.net . My intention is to use the club station and have club members get on as W1AW/9. I have reserved four hours on 10 meter SSB that morning and four hours on 15 meter SSB that afternoon. I also have some time scheduled for during the day on Monday Dec. 8 from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM CST (1600 through 2200 UTC) if anyone can make it then. Anyone interested in operating during these time periods, let me know and when you think you can be there, we will work out some kind of a schedule. I may be able to schedule other days, times or modes, depending on how fast the master schedule fills up. Let me know. It would be handy to have a convenient way to use multiple headphones from a single source that will allow independent volume adjustment as well as using both mono and stereo headphones. What I have in mind is passive, for the sake of simplicity. I have a circuit but am looking for some parts to build it with. If anyone has any of the following parts to are willing to donate to the cause, let me know and I will make arrangements to get them from you. 1 - 1/4 inch (3.5 MM) stereo mic plug (right angle preferred but straight is OK) 2 - 1/4 inch (3.5 mm) panel mount stereo mic receptacles 2 - 1/8 inch (2.5 mm) panel mount stereo mic receptacles 2 - 5K ohm 2 watt panel mount pots 2 - single pole single throw panel mount toggle switches 2 - 100 ohm 1/2 watt resistors 3 - .01 uF caps, 50 VDC Thanks Danny NG9R dpease at adams.net From dpease at adams.net Sat Nov 22 10:36:20 2014 From: dpease at adams.net (Danny Pease) Date: Sat, 22 Nov 2014 09:36:20 -0600 Subject: [WIARC] free world map Message-ID: <01fe01d0066a$108d2550$31a76ff0$@adams.net> If you are not an ARRL member but have been thinking about joining, now is a good time. The ARRL has a promotion going on giving away a free world map to those that join by November 30th. I also understand the offer is available to existing members that renew early as well. http://www.arrl.org/join/TKS When you fill out the online application, make to use the promo code TKS to get the free map. I would love to see out club members all be members of the ARRL. The benefits are worth every cent you will ever pay for the membership. Even non-members benefit from what the ARRL does for Amateur Radio, please support them if you possibly can. And I believe we had concluded we didn't know exactly when that was. John was born Mar 26, 1902 so if 14 would have been licensed Mar 26, 1916 to Mar 25, 1917. >From the old call sign database entry below If his expirations were all 10 years apart this would indicate he was licensed Sep 23, 1916 when he was 14. Does this jive with what we know about John? So maybe we can use this date and celebrate the 100th anniversary of W9OAB in a couple of years? Maybe we can get a news story out of it?
