From wiarc at mailman.qth.net Mon Aug 4 08:06:38 2014 From: wiarc at mailman.qth.net (Michael Black via WIARC) Date: Mon, 4 Aug 2014 07:06:38 -0500 Subject: [WIARC] Tuning Utility Message-ID: <014201cfafdc$8bfcf330$a3f6d990$@yahoo.com> I'm looking for a volunteer to test my tuning utility. It's actually a CW generator. I got tired of the tuning steps whenever I changed bands. Mode -> CW Power < 20W Change freq a bit to find quiet spot Key mic Press tuner button When SWR settles unkey mic Power back to normal Mode -> USB Change freq back With the SIgnalink hooked up to my computer all I really needed was to transmit a sine wave. So I wrote a small utility to do just that. So now: Start util ? select Signalink, set output level to generate < 20W So now when I change bands Change freq a bit to find quiet spot Click "Transmit" Press tuner button When SWR settles click "Stop" (it's the same button just renames itself or it times out after 15 seconds) Change freq back No mode change, no power adjustments on the radio.? Matter of fact I don?t' have to touch the radio anymore. Any volunteers to test this and give feedback?? All you need is a VOX activated sound card like the SignaLink. Eventually we may want to put this on the computer in the club shack as the autotuner would be even fewer steps.? In that case you'd just click the transmit button.? It's got a 15 second 500Hz sine wave that it plays and then stops automatically or you can stop it yourself with another click. I'm going to add rig control so that the software can automatically detect good SWR and stop the transmit and can do the frequency shift too so just one click is all it takes. We would set up some kind of station for demonstration to the public, along with several other agencies. I do not exact details on what we will be able to do, but as the time is a little close, we need know if anyone is willing to help with this. The open house is to be from 4 PM until 5:45 PM, I am sure we will probably need to be set up before 4:00. Do we have any volunteers to work on this? I need a response very soon so we can let them know we will be glad to participate. Besides the general public, we would also have the Coast Guard there for us to demonstrate our capabilities to. We really could use a couple more volunteers to help set up and man a display late Tuesday afternoon. Please respond direct before tomorrow morning if you are available to help. One thing I found is to check and make sure your points are accurate. They seem to have a lot of errors. For example any ARRL member is worth 1 point, lifetime 2 points, VEC 5 points. http://www.arrl.org/centennial-qso-party#Table Anybody want to work local and rack up some more points? Might be good practice for the IL QSO party. As of this morning I'm #3279, 4881 points, 1546 QSOs Got 12 points on the W1AW side. That one is encouraging me to learn morse..I may start doing that soon.
