For those of you that have not seen this yet, there is a mention about
N9JF's article in the last Feedline. If you do not receive the Section
reports and you are an ARRL member, you can sign up for them on the ARRL
site. More info at the bottom of the forwarded section.

>From the top...
**The turmoil continues from the 'informal' citation which Laura Smith
issued to the EmComm participant in IA. Lots of words flying on the subject
claiming to be 'authoritative' and 'final', but none from Ms. Smith, her
boss or the Commissioners. There is an NPRM supposedly brewing out west. I
recall Riley (and Ms. Smith after him, truth be told!) cautioning us not to
look to Uncle Charlie for solutions, as we might not like the results. Quite
honestly, I have to agree with them generally, but this is one of those
things where I do not see a way out without some movement in the Rules. The
technology and the art have progressed past what was envisioned years ago.

**The effort to provide communications support for the recent Chicago
Marathon was the subject of an article on the main page of the League
website...which seems to have already vaporized. I have seen no other after
action reports other than that piece. It certainly looks as if a good job
was done by all involved.
===================================================================
**By now, League members in good standing have received ballots for the Vice
Director election. Do your due diligence and VOTE. Our Central Division
Director, Dick Isely W9GIG has once again been ushered unopposed into a new
term.

Get informed...
**Many emails and forwards of the story of the family in FL who was
electrocuted to death (yes, you CAN be electrocuted without dying!) while
trying to raise an antenna. People, before you start tossing wire or
planting aluminum, make doubly sure that there are no electrical feeds above
OR below.
And, do your antenna work in the daylight. It only takes a minute to save
yourself from disaster. Sad aside: in one forum, a person offered the
comment that the situation was a direct result of relaxed licensing
requirements.
Where some people will stoop to further an agenda...
==================================================================
**Last call before the IL QSO Party on 18 October. Here's a chance to get
your feet wet in contesting without the pressure of participating in one of
the 'big ones'. Many thanks again to the Western IL ARC for sponsoring this
event.
================================================================
**Also on the air this weekend: Jamboree on the Air. There's still a little
time to open your station to some Scouts and possibly land some new blood
into the Service. Additionally, the McHenry County RACES/ARES will be
signing K9G from the EMA communications vehicle to commemorate the
seventieth anniversary of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary on 17
October. It will be a fun weekend on the radio!

Around the Section...
**Once again, it's approaching that time of year for club elections.
'Somebody' has to do it. Why aren't you 'somebody'? Step up and shoulder
some of the load.
================================================================
**A charming article in the Western IL ARC Feedline tells us of 'Really,
REALLY Deleted Countries', based on a tour through a geography text from
1896. It's amazing as to how the world has changed in 100+ years.
===============================================================
**The newsletter of the McHenry County Wireless Association contains a piece
debating whether or not we are truly in Cycle 24. Let's hope so as contest
season is underway. I don't think that anyone wants to suffer through a
winter like the one past.
===============================================================
**Bob Yurs W9ICU, President of the Kishwaukee ARC sends the following on
their always successful display at the N IL Steam Club's Kids' Day: 'Thanks
to Eric KC9DUX, Barry W9JBL and Luc KC9PJM for their assistance with radio
station for the annual N. IL Steam Power Clubs annual Kids Day. This year
there were
169 sixth graders from Genoa-Kingston school district. Good group of kids,
had lots of questions and enjoyed talking to Luc on the air. (Luc is
13--ed.) Steam Show Officers also thanked the KARC for our participation
again this year.'
==================================================================
**Thanks for your patience through the last two lean months. Some personal
issues have kept me from putting forth a proper effort on the News. Those
issues have resolved, and I'll give things the proper attention.
