FW: [WIARC] ice and antennas

I don't recommend using the charger in the transmitter, it will kill the
batteries in about 18 months. It does not know when to stop charging. 24
volt chargers on the other hand do cost a bit, I would think it could be
built without too much expense. I just bought some sealed (required by law
indoors) 12 volt 72 Amp Hour deep cycle wet cells for about $90 bucks each,
.94 would require 2 plus mounting. Delco makes the only sealed deep cycle
wet cell I could find. Everybody else does sealed gel cells and they
typically cost about $120.00 each and don't last as long.

We really out to look at putting one of the repeaters on battery back-up.
It wouldn't be too hard but it would take a little cash outlay. The .94
machine only needs a couple of batteries, the charger is already in the
transmitter. .03 would be a lot tougher and expensive. Maybe something to
bring up at the repeater board meeting Jim?
