That is great news Mike. Would you accept financial contributions to =
the cause?

Subject: [WIARC] The ILQDX digi, and plans for the W9AWE NODE.
All, =20
I finally got out to the .91 digi at North Campus. It took some doing =
to get in the building... but that is another story..
I did not have much with me in the way of tools or test equipment but =
just wanted to see if anyone was home and if the lights were on. =
Basically just to check the obvious... like blown fuses, something =
unplugged, everything stolen or what?
I found nothing out of order and all indications were normal. I =
checked all fuses, etc. The bar graph on the front of the TNC indicated =
normal looking receiver noise. The manual transmitter key on the =
Quintron unit worked. Lacking a method of actually connecting to the =
digi, I called NG9R on the phone and he tried connecting from his =
station and bingo, first try. He disconnected and tried again. Again, =
bingo, first try. So just why the digi has been ignoring inputs for the =
last few weeks is beyond me. =20
Just as a reminder, we still do not have a connection north to the =
Davenport node. That will not be coming back in the foreseeable future. =
So, although the ILQDX digi and the NODE are running, we do not have a =
connection to the PacketCluster network backbone.
But never fear...
I have again been considering the possibilities of getting a full time =
internet connection for the node. I had been considering changing my =
home dialup account to a wireless account. This would allow me to =
connect the node here at the house to the internet. BUT, the costs are =
high both in terms of initial investment and monthly upkeep... The =
initial investment is about $450 and the monthly subscription is about =
$50. Personally, this is too high for me to justify... I wouldn't mind =
having the wireless connection here at the house but I simply cannot =
justify it.
But there is another alternative...
Now that the holidays are over and some spare time may be available, I =
have again confirmed the availability of another node location where we =
can get a full time internet connection. With that confirmation I am =
going to proceed in that direction and order the bridging software ($70) =
which will be required in order to connect the PacketCluster software to =
the internet. Once that is here and the hardware and software =
configured and checked out, we will move the NODE to this new location. =
I will still be able to control the node via the input connection from =
my place. But the node will be at a location where access is limited. =
However the price is right.
So, hopefully in a few more weeks we should have this project =
complete...
