...NWS Damage Assessment for May 13th, 2026 Preston CountyTornado Event...

A storm crossed western Preston County, West Virginia from  roughly 4:28pm to 4:32pm on May 13th, 2026. The damage produced by this storm, surveyed by UAS and security cameras, was determined  to be tornadic and representative of an EF-0 with peak winds of 80 to 85 mph.

Initial damage began along Moran Road, 3 miles east of Reedsville, WV, where trees were snapped and a roof was blown off a restaurant. Damage was then noted farther east where a couple
trees were snapped and uprooted within a forested area. Finally, damage occurred at a zoo northwest of Kingwood, WV where small trees were snapped and security cameras recorded the circulation. Visible convergence patterns in the felled trees further confirmed the tornadic circulation.

This is a preliminary report as we await additional drone footage to finalize the report. Special thanks to Preston County Emergency Management officials for their aerial footage and aid with this assessment.
