The North Central West Virginia Skywarn Net was activated on the W8MWA repeater at 06:00 EST. Please call in and share your snowfall totals.Throughout the morning we will operate on an hourly basis. I will look for your snowfall reports at the top of every hour. Reports will be accepted at other times as well.
Early snowfall reports via the North Central West Virginia Skywarm Net and the NWS Pittsburgh indicated a general 3" of snowfall generally and in Mon and Preston Counties. The concern is the warmer air that is already in southern West Virginia. It arrives later today and will change the snow to a mixture of rain, sleet and ice.
Widespread power outages, and impacts to travel and infrastructure are expected due to snow and ice accumulations. Frigid temperatures and bitter wind chills that set in behind this storm are expected to linger through much of the work week. This prolonged period of cold will be especially impactful for those who find themselves without power in the wake of the weekend storm.
