Good snowy morning and Happy New Year!

The NWS Pittsburgh contacted me to request our snowfall measurements. They share our snowfall reports with emergency management offices, first responders and the media. They also use our reports to check their forecast accuracy. For us measuring and reporting snowfall represents a public service that brings credit and recognition to amateur radio.

In response, we will activate the North Central West Virginia Skywarn Net this morning.

The Net will receive your reports via the W8MWA two-meter repeater (145.430 MHz, PL 103.5, -600 offset) at any time. However, we will specifically be asking for reports at the following three times this morning:
You only have to report once. After the 10:00 reports we will secure the NC WV Skywarn Net and get ready to watch college football!

So grab a ruler, stick it in the snow and let us know what you measure.

73 and thanks,

Jeff, WB1AAL
