I am making an exception and sending this message to all groups as it is a notification from the NWS of the temporary closure of the NWS Pittsburgh office next week.

You may wonder how this impacts you. As explained below it shouldn't except for services such as the NOAA radio. (See below)  It should not impact the North Central West Virginia ARES Skywarn Net as local forecasts, Watches and Warnings will be maintained and we have a connection directly to the NWS in Charleston, WV.

From the NWS Pittsburgh:

We want to give you a heads up that a major software upgrade is happening to our computer systems next week.   The NWS Pittsburgh office will be down for 3 days from Tuesday May 12th to Thursday May 14th.

We are sending our meteorologists to our primary backup office, NWS RLX Charleston WV.   We will be doing the majority of the forecast and warning work from there.   For the most part, this will be transparent to you other than all NOAA Weather Radio transmitters (NWR) will be down and there is no workaround to keep them functioning.   Everything else should function as it normally does.
